Johanna's passion for the arts began when she was a young girl with a love for dance, which she describes as a source of inspiration.

"Dancing is like inspiration," she shares, drawing parallels between the movement in dance and the movement of a paintbrush. The arts have served as a powerful platform for Johanna's self-expression.

At MDAC, Johanna’s artistic expression extends beyond dance to a variety of mediums. Guided by her art therapist Jessica and others, she has embraced everything from watercolor and printmaking to more complex techniques.

This support has encouraged her to explore new creative challenges. “Being at MDAC is my inspiration,” she reflects. “When I first started here, for a lot of years I've been here, I've grown as an artist. It’s always okay to do something new. And it's always okay to challenge yourself."

"It’s always okay to do something new. And it's always okay to challenge yourself. You have to grow, keep growing...growing till you get better as an artist."

Johanna's years at MDAC have fostered her growth, both as an individual and as an artist, reinforcing her belief in the importance of continual self-improvement. " You have to grow, keep growing...growing till you get better as an artist," Johanna says.

Through her journey at MDAC, Johanna continues to grow as an artist, allowing her creative spirit to thrive and inspiring those around her.
